Artist’s Statement
I have always been fascinated with the human face. Like a book, a face tells a biography with poetry of features set on a landscape of flesh. As a child, my tools were my crayons and newsprint paper. My inspiration was my daily encounter with the faces in my world. Although I have left the crayons behind, my inspiration has continued to grow and lead me to create portraits that reflect the essence of my subjects.

Overwhelmed by the way in which I capture likeness, my clients share their desire to have a portrait of themselves or their loved ones. These portraits remind them of their roots and ground them to their families and treasured friends. My portraits of children have continued to be particularly popular, as I am inspired by the beauty of their innocence. Children, with their open hearts, represent the hope of the future and remind us of what is important in a fast paced world. Parents are naturally moved by these portraits and reminisce about generations past captured in the features or gestures of their children. Ultimately, this feedback feeds my inspiration, as I am aware that the creative process that began with paint on canvas continues to evolve in the minds of the viewers.
